TRANSMISSION TROUBLE?
Most major transmission repairs start out as minor problems, but when ignored, turn into big problems.
Don't ignore the first signs of transmission problems!
Signs of transmission problems can include but are not limited to leaking, noticeable oil spots on your driveway, slipping or unusual noise. Loud bangs in or out of gear, or noticeable difference in the way the transmission shifts. If the service engine light comes on, never ignore this light. It is telling you that the computer has sensed something abnormal somewhere in your vehicle. Your mechanic should be able to computer scan and extract codes which will lead you to the problem.
The best way to avoid transmission repair is to do regular maintenance. Yearly transmission service will increase the odds of recognizing transmission trouble before the repair becomes costly. Regular maintenance won't guarantee against transmission failure, but it will lower the odds. When regular maintenance is done less than 20% of transmission problems we see require a major repair. When we get a vehicle with high mileage and the transmission has never had maintenance, the odds of major repair are far greater.
